Approximation algorithms for problems in scheduling with set-ups

چکیده
In this paper, we present new approximation results for the offline problem of single machine scheduling with sequenceindependent set-ups and item availability, where the jobs to be scheduled are independent (i.e., have no precedence constraints) and have a common release time. We present polynomial-time approximation algorithms for two versions of this problem. In the first version, the input includes a weight for each job, and the goal is to minimize the total weighted completion time. On any input, our algorithm produces a schedule whose total weighted completion time is within a factor 2 of optimal for that input. In the second version, the input includes a due date for each job, and the goal is to minimize the maximum lateness of any job. On any input, our algorithm produces a schedule with the following performance guarantee: the maximum lateness of a job is at most the maximum lateness of the optimal schedule on a machine that runs at half the speed of our machine. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Development of a Set of Algorithms for the Multi-Project Scheduling Problems
In this paper, the problem of determining the best schedule for a set of projects has been modeled in the form of a generalized tardiness flowshop (GTF) problem. We develop a set of heuristic algorithms for minimizing the total tardiness of jobs in a GTF problem. In the generalized version of tardiness flowshop problems, a job is considered to be a collection of operations and there is a due da...
متن کاملEvaluation of Bi-objective Scheduling Problems by FDH, Distance and Triangle Methods
In this paper, two methods named distance and triangle methods are extended to evaluate the quality of approximation of the Pareto set from solving bi-objective problems. In order to use evaluation methods, a bi-objective problem is needed to define. It is considered the problem of scheduling jobs in a hybrid flow shop environment with sequence-dependent setup times and the objectives of minimi...

This paper presents a multi-objective resource-constrained project scheduling problem with positive and negative cash flows. The net present value (NPV) maximization and making span minimization are this study objectives. And since this problem is considered as complex optimization in NP-Hard context, we present a mathematical model for the given problem and solve three evolutionary algorithms;...

This paper studies the multi-factory production (MFP) network scheduling problem where a number of different individual factories join together to form a MFP network, in which these factories can operate more economically than operating individually. However, in such network which known as virtual production network with self-interested factories with transportation times, each individual facto...
متن کاملEfficient Approximation Algorithms for Point-set Diameter in Higher Dimensions
We study the problem of computing the diameter of a set of $n$ points in $d$-dimensional Euclidean space for a fixed dimension $d$, and propose a new $(1+varepsilon)$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+ 1/varepsilon^{d-1})$ time and $O(n)$ space, where $0 < varepsilonleqslant 1$. We also show that the proposed algorithm can be modified to a $(1+O(varepsilon))$-approximation algorithm with $O(n+...
